Stavros Banos
VICE ADMIRAL (ret) STAVROS BANOS HN
Vice Admiral (ret) Stavros Banos HN was born in Piraeus on Oct 25th, 1962. He joined the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1981 and was commissioned as Ensign of the Hellenic Navy in June 1985.
He reached the higher rank of the hierarchy of the Hellenic Navy by being promoted on the scheduled dates up to the rank of Vice Admiral with
which he was retired in January 2019.
He served mainly on Destroyers, Frigates and Gun Boats and as the Commanding Officer of GB HS POLEMISTIS and FFGΜ HS THEMISTOKLIS.
His shore and staff assignments include service as Naval Attaché of Greece in Ankara (Turkey) and 9 years as Director of Operations and
intelligence Centers of the Armed Forces (Hellenic Fleet, Hellenic Navy General Staff and Hellenic National Defense General Staff).
Upon his promotion to Commodore on March 1st of 2015, until January 28th of 2019, he assumed duties of Director of the Joint Operational Center of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff. He retired as Vice Admiral Director in honor of the Joint Operations Center of the Hellenic Defense General Staff.
He is a graduate of the Command and Staff College / Marine Corps University (USA), of the Joint Forces Staff College (USA) and of the NATO
Defense College (ITALY). At the same time, he holds a Master’s specialization in energy policy and disaster management from the School of
Engineering at the University of Western Macedonia.
Vice Admiral (ret) S. Banos HN has been awarded all the medals and decorations provided for his rank and participation in peacekeeping missions.
He is married and has a son and a daughter.
